New faces for 2025-26

Welcome to new group members for the 2025-26 academic year: Hugo, Julia, Maisie, Harry, Leonie (top row), Nils, Elouise, Sam and Sean. Hugo, Maisie and Harry are final year (Part 2) MChem students; Julia is a visiting student from Freiburg; Sean, Elouise and Sam are new DPhil students (Elouise jointly supervised by Prof Mike Neidig, and Sam by Prof Véronique Gouverneur on the IMAT CDT programme); Nils and Leonie are new post-doctoral fellows joining us in January and April (supported by the EPSRC and the Humboldt Foundation).

Congratulations Dr Struijs!

Many congratulations to OxICFM CDT student Job Struijs for successfully defending his doctoral thesis! Job is the first student working on a collaborative project with Véronique Gouverneur's group, and has been exploiting a range of solution-phase and solid-state approaches relating to nucleophilic fluorination using calcium fluorides. A main group metal carbonyl complex!

A study seven years in the completion! Max, Andrey, Aggy, Surendar et al.’s study of a main group metal carbonyl complex is just out in Science magazine. The paper describes the synthesis, structure and reactivity of a tin complex of CO - a class of complex characteristic of transition elements and previously thought to be accessible to p-block metals only at cryogenic temperatures...
